low volume and troubling absentee bass from the Blu-ray to offer a bit more of a kick with this one. The characters journey in each Marvel film has somewhat been a struggle for the company since the end of phase one. More pixels also means more colours, deeper darks and brighter bright, and augmented clarity, crispness, and contrast. We get an opening flashback scene to her origins, which does lay on some of the points it's trying to make a bit thickly.

And then there's more of her origin, scenes to establish where as mentioned it takes place in continuity, and then more scenes to set up the plot. If anything the film is a great way to get Marvel audiences back into the MCU and say goodbye to an old favourite while introducing some exciting new faces.

Now that the time has come for that film however, I can’t help but feel it’s too little, too late, as even in her own film Natasha takes a back seat to new, more exciting characters. not gargantuanly more brilliant than the SDR Blu-ray counterpart, but the differences are obvious and do not stop in the middle. Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) Natasha Romanoff finds herself on the run as the Avengers are no longer together. HDR and WCG give Disney Plus's Dolby Vision a run for its money, delivering rich, vibrant tones, from the deliciously deep Red Room squad to the early nighttime ambush, with impenetrable black levels, rewarding shadow detail and excellent range.

Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as the Marvel Comics superhero in this action adventure directed by Cate Shortland. After a pandemic-induced wobbly 20-odd months, and a surprising - or perhaps unsurprising - amount of movement on the small screen front with Disney+ delivering a salvo of solid-to-great TV shows, Marvel treads cautiously into its fourth Phase with this transitional Big Screen offering. The family dynamics these four display lend to some tender moments and some comical moments… all of which were the films highlights. There is also an optional director introduction, accessible from the "Play" menu tab (which is curiously absent from the UHD, too). In both installments our main characters go through real change and have real arcs that effect their character and their world. It’s becoming somewhat of a habit of Florence Pugh’s now as time and time again she steals everything she’s involved in, something she proved more than ever in her Oscar nominated performance in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women adaptation. We have a character that starts off as a self centred billionaire with no cares and end with a superhero, after all origin stories are rather easy to have changes for our characters.

After making her debut in the MCU 11 years ago in Iron Man 2, Natasha Romanoff finally gets her own stand alone film in Black Widow. Although you do come away thinking that the sister makes a bigger impression than the main character.
