About this deal

If you choose to play by Kingdom building, hopefully this article will help you decide which race to focus on (or if this is a game you want to explore further). What terrain types you choose for your Kingdom dictates what units you can field in your army. If you lose those lands in a campaign game (more on that later), then you can still recruit the troop type from that land but they take a small penalty in their activation value (moral). These seems to be confirmed by fresh news on Wargameterrain: "We will have a regular release schedule for plastic Oathmark figures this year, including: Human Cavalry, Dwarf Light Infantry, Revenants, Orcs and Goblin Lt Infantry." Showcases Our showcases show interesting products. Many are painted, some are not, but they are all neat. We do our best to inform the readers of what they are looking at so they can find the products for themselves if they are interested. Faction of Nature with fauns, dryads, centaurs, unicorns, giant eagles, treants (because it would fit the folklore of the Marches, I already made some house rules for some of them, and more is on the way) Inside the rulebook, players are encouraged to play in one of two ways. The first way is for each player to choose one race from the book and keep their army selections to just that race. The second way is by creating a Kingdom. The Kingdom method allows you to build your own allowable units for the game. Which regions you choose to house in your Kingdom define which units you can hire in your army.

Oathbreakers has s urprisingly nothing, not even the box art of the already available Skeleton Infantry... As a note, s pecial thanks goes out to Osprey Games for sending me a copy of the rules for review. Two Ways to Play… While Bob works extensively with digital design tools, the Dwarfs he designed for North Star Figures were all sculpted by hand, using mainly greenstuff and polymer clays. For me, the Dwarf Infantry models perfectly capture a ‘less is more’ aesthetic, with a deliberate avoidance of the more ‘heroic’ elements that can enter into fantasy models. I was interested to know the inspiration behind the designs, and was afforded the opportunity to ask Bob about this. As you get deeper into the hobby, you may want to upgrade your terrain by either making your own (there are loads of how-to videos online) or by purchasing some of the amazing offerings available from a variety of scenery manufacturers. You can likely find a good selection of scenery available wherever you buy your Oathmark miniatures. Dice

The official lines of miniatures for the game come from North Star Military Figures. Thanks goes out again to Osprey Games for sending me this book for review. In the section below, I go through the four armies and outline the advantages and disadvantages of each races’ core troops and make mention of their unique units. I think we are trough with the missing units. Regarding monsters and artillery, I wouldn't make any prophecies, because there is only one official monster, and zero official artillery available. Thats to few to draw any lesson from it. And the characters?Northstar has a lot of metal miniatures, the tooling for metal casts is relativelyeasy to make, so there is everything possible! Hopefully you enjoyed this deep dive looking at the Armies Of Oathmark. Personally, I think this is a good start, but wish that the book also covered the Undead. It looks like the living dead will be covered in the second expansion, so here is hoping. It is worth noting here that while Oathmark has its own line of miniatures, you can also use whichever line of miniatures you like best. It is miniatures agnostic but their miniatures look great too. I especially like their dwarfs and humans. Now, let’s talk about Kingdom building. Building Your Kingdom

The Armies in Oathmark take on a very “Lord of the Rings” feel. There are no crossbows (or guns), but all races have access to bows. Most of the core options between races are very similar. Every race has access to Soldiers, Spearmen, Archers, Warriors, Linebreakers, and Militia of some sort. So, what are the differences? There are multiple troop types (although not all races have all troop types) like several infantry types (spearmen, linebreakers, militia etc), cavalry (heavy and light, horse and wolf) artillery and a list of aligned and unaligned monsters and creatures that either fight in small units or alone. In this post, we pay specific attention on the armies and units that you can field in Oathmark. Although this article is not a review of the game, I categorized it as a review because it will give you a really good idea of the units you can take in the game and the differences between the races. Elsewhere… Bastard, The Damned, The Lords of the New Church & More: The Authorised Biography of Brian James…

The rest of the mechanic seems relatively conventional. Units have stats like Move and Fight, need to roll a minimum value to succeed in things like Activation rolls and Hits and roll for Morale when taking casualties. There are the traditional races like Dwarves, Humans, Elves and Orcs and Goblins. After miniatures, the most crucial item is a table. It is called tabletop wargaming, after all! Oathmark does not require a specific table size to play, but you do want to make sure you have enough room for the armies you are using. For example, you could play a game with 30 figures per player on a 2’ x 4’ table. A larger game, in which each player has 100 or more figures under their command, would require a larger table: something more like 4’ x 6’. Monsters can be very impressive, like the 800 point Winged Dragon which is practically a small army in itself. However, in a 3000 point average game it will eat up over a quarter of your points, so it better be a gamechanger. That amount of points will buy four (4!) full units of Goblin soldiers! Osprey Games and North Star Military Figures have now released their newest Mass Combat Fantasy System – Oathmark. In it, you build a Kingdom and wage wars against your neighbors. There are four core races in the book (Dwarf, Human, Elf, and Goblin/Orc). Those races all get along within a Kingdom but will fight for their lords against neighboring kingdoms. How will you build your Kingdom?Just as I’d hoped, all of these are interchangeable and modular. Out of this mass of plastic you could build 3 x units of Hammerers, Ironbreakers and dwarf warriors, each with full command pieces, with heaps of bits to spare for kitbashing. Recently, I went through all of the races in the book and listed their advantages and disadvantages in the game. In this post, we will look specifically at the list of the Dwarfs. As a note, these are very “lord of the rings” type units. There are no crossbows, guns or Dwarf cavalry on rams. Two Ways to Play Oathmark Elf dogs: there was an Elf Hunt Master miniature, but only as a special offer, and without dogs. There could be a separate box for this, but honestly, I dont think that its really needed... Northstar has some metal dog/wolf miniatures, so if the Elf Hunt Master would be released as a normal miniature, anybody could make a unit with combining them.
